How to Run a Challenge Group

Everything you need to know to run your very own challenge group! Remember that you can run your groups however YOU want to run them! This is your business, so YOU make the rules! But I do have some ideas and best practices that I have learned over the years after running several successful (and not so successful!) challenge groups, and hope that my tips and tricks help you get started!

Challenge Group Basics

  • GROUP SIZE: minimum = 7-10 people

    • This is not a requirement by any means, you can have as many or as few people in groups as you want. But I have noticed after running groups of all sizes that the sweet spot is 7-10 people. Its not too huge where its overwhelming for your challenger, but its also still big enough that you will have engagement and thats what will make or break your group! I definitely don't recommend having a group with just a couple people in it - like mentioned above, the more engagement, the better your group will be!

  • GROUP LENGTH: 21-30 days

    • I have tried running groups longer than this but find that the engagement just drops. So unless you plan to run an ongoing challenge group that doesn't have a start or end date, I would recommend keeping them to 21-30 days!

    • FREE GROUPS: I DO recommend running at least one free challenge group a month like a 5 day clean eating group or 6 day Shred group. Keeping these short is good because it gives your challengers a taste of what you have to offer as a coach, as well as introduces them to the amazing support and accountability that a challenge group can provide!

  • NEW COACHES!! When to run your own group

    • This is one of the most common questions that I get from new coaches...when should you run your own group? I explain this more in the video below, but I HIGHLY recommend either adding your challengers to your upline coach's group, or teaming up with another coach on the team and running one together. Most new coaches only have a couple challengers to start off with, so that is why I find it better to team up because 1) you can learn how your coach or other's on the team run challenges, 2) it gives you time to build your challenger base before creating your own group, and 3) it allows you to connect and build relationships with other leaders on the team!

    • Again, I can't emphasize this enough - I do NOT recommend running your first group alone with just a couple challengers. TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!

  • HOW TO INVITE TO A CHALLENGE GROUP

    • Watch my video below to see how I invite people to join my challenge! Another way to learn about this is to go to Youtube and search "Beachbody how to invite to a challenge group"! You will find SO many great videos and trainings from other coaches on how to do this and get more comfortable with it!

  • WHAT TO SAY WHEN SOMEONE COMMENTS OR MESSAGES THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN A CHALLENGE GROUP

    • I have created a script that walks you through how to talk with people about challenge groups in a way that you are able to DIG DEEP and get to know them! The deeper you get with your prospects and their goals, the easier it is for them to commit to a group with you. By making them take a look at themselves and what they want, it really will sink in more with them that they need to do this for themselves! Use the script below, but please reword it so that it sounds like YOU! But don't recreate the wheel - I have used this script since January 2014 and have hit over SC10 every month since. It works, so just tweak to make it your personality, but keep the general structure the same!

    • Here is a great document to use that will give you some awesome questions to ask your prospects so that you can dig deep with them! Incorporate these questions into the script above when you are asking about their nutrition, fitness and support. Remember - get to know them, their struggles, their goals and their why FIRST before even talking about a challenge group. The deeper you dig, the more trust they build with you and the more connected they get to this goal of getting healthy!

Challenge groups are the bread and butter of what we do as coaches! There are SO many different ways for people to lose weight...so why join us? Why have you as their coach? SUPPORT. That is often the thing that so many people lack, and also the thing that so many other weight loss programs don't have. By giving your challengers a place to feel supported and accountable, we really are providing that last piece of the puzzle for them to kick ass at their goals! Get creative and make sure that your challenge groups are fun, engaging and support the CRAP out of your challengers! There is no better feeling than seeing your challengers get results, PLUS when this happens, they become natural advocates of Beachbody and eventually make amazing coaches on your team! So whether you are running your own group or teaming up with another coach, make SURE you are plugging your people into a group so that they can get the most out of their program and see success with you as their coach!
