2) Does Shakeology contain any caffeine or stimulants?

Our mission is to use whole ingredients (not extracts) in our formulations. As such, a whole leaf, all-natural green tea is used in each of the Shakeology formulas. Natural cocoa (cacao) is found in Chocolate and Chocolate Vegan formulas; cocoa contains theobromine, a beneficial compound which has a similar chemical structure to caffeine. Therefore all formulations contain low levels of naturally-occurring caffeine.

The green tea we use in Shakeology is a whole herb powder with naturally occurring levels of caffeine. We don't add caffeine to it, the plant contains it, and it's not removed due to it being whole herb and not an extract. Only extracts can completely remove caffeine content from green tea. Despite this, the caffeine content is very low. For example, in Greenberry Shakeology, there less than one (1) mg per serving, to put this in perspective, a typical 12 oz cup of brewed coffee sold at a popular coffeehouse contains about 250 mg of caffeine . While the amount of caffeine maybe higher in Chocolate Shakeology flavors since Cacao (cocoa) contains naturally occurring levels of caffeine, it does not approach the amount in coffee or in caffeinated beverages. However, caffeine is a sensitivity for some consumers so if they can have no caffeine at all, it's best to stay away from all sources, even naturally occurring amounts, and discuss the product with their doctor before consuming.

3) Do you still have the Shakeology Cleanse? Why are we no longer promoting the cleanse?

The Shakeology Cleanse is a novel coach tool created by coaches a couple of years ago to get people to try Shakeology and experience its amazing benefits. Beachbody has never officially sponsored this cleanse as Shakeology is a dietary supplement that should be taken daily along with a healthy diet and exercise to achieve great health benefits such as weight loss and ideal cholesterol levels. While Shakeology contains up to 70 ingredients, it does not have enough calories or the right amount of protein and fiber to replace all three meals and should be taken once per day to help you maximize your weight loss and fitness goals.

Beachbody noticed that coaches and their customers were using this Shakeology cleanse to get a little kickstart in 3 days, and that is why they created the 3 Day Refresh! Here is a great video from Isabelle Daikeler - one of the co-creators of Shakeology - sharing why they developed the 3 Day Refresh and how it is a better solution than the Shakeology cleanses found online: https://youtu.be/9E2fSe8TTe4

4) Is Shakeology safe for pregnant women and nursing mothers?

Shakeology should only be taken by pregnant women and nursing mothers under the direction of their physicians. However, it is an amazing nutrient dense shake that will provide both mom and baby with the nutrition that their bodies need! Here is a great video by 10 Star Diamond Coach Lindsay Stay explaining her experience with Shakeology while pregnant and nursing: https://youtu.be/bcS-F-0xEMc

SPECIAL NOTE FOR VEGAN FORMULATIONS: Shakeology is dietary supplement in a food form, and since our vegan formulas are not fortified, the levels of any one nutrient should not be an issue for anyone or for a pregnant woman. Pregnant women need to careful about levels of Vitamin A (10,000 IU is the upper limit), but the amounts we have at unfortified levels are similar to those found in unfortified foods and in fruits and vegetables. Accordingly, pregnant women should consider their intake of vegan Shakeology as part of their normal diet, but should not rely solely on Shakeology to meet the needs of pregnancy for nutrients like, iron, folate, Vitamin A, or calcium.

5) Is Shakeology "certified" as a meal replacement?

Shakeology is a dietary supplement that when prepared with certain liquids, healthy ingredients, and/or fruit can contain enough calories to replace a meal. As with all dietary supplements, Shakeology is designed to supplement your healthy diet and not be the only source of nutrition throughout the day. Shakeology is not recommended to replace more than two meals per day.

6) Is Shakeology gluten free?

Shakeology is 100% gluten free.  Yes, it has wheat grass, oat grass and barley grass BUT these grasses are gluten free if harvested before the plant matures (when gluten forms on the plant).  Shakeology is made with grasses that are not matured to prevent any cross contamination.  The bag is not labeled gluten free due to the FDA’s labeling laws regarding gluten free labeling.

7) Is it possible to gain weight while drinking Shakeology?

Shakeology is dietary supplement when prepared as directed is low in calories. Customers who follow a healthy diet that includes Shakeology along with regular exercise, typically experience weight loss. Weight gain, however is uncommon and is likely a result of more overall calories being consumed in a given day than are used by the body. Weight gain could also be related to many other factors beyond diet, so it is recommended to consult a physician if you experience weight gain while drinking Shakeology.

8) What are the benefits of the vegan Shakeology formulas compared to the regular formulas?

The Tropical Strawberry and Chocolate Vegan Shakeology are dairy free, Lactose free and soy-free. They contain a new proprietary blend of plant-based proteins. It is ideal for those who cannot tolerate or wish to avoid whey protein or animal proteins, and those with intolerance's to dairy and soy.

Many people find that a vegan protein is more easily digested by the body than animal protein. The vegan formulas are not fortified with additional vitamin and mineral isolates (as the whey-based Shakeology formulas are). Therefore, for people looking for nutrition (vitamins and minerals) coming exclusively from whole foods, without fortification, the vegan Shakeology is a great option.

9) What are the side effects an individual can expect when drinking Shakeology for the first time?

Some customers may experience initial digestive distress (such as constipation, bloating, gas and even headaches, upset stomach, etc.) when they begin drinking Shakeology. These symptoms can be from a variety of factors such as a change in diet, lack of hydration, or what else a person is eating (or not eating) in addition to Shakeology. The pre/probiotics, fiber and digestive enzymes in Shakeology also can contribute to mild digestive distress. Think of it as a cleansing process to reclaim the healthy microflora in your system.

Many who have experienced such symptoms found that they lessened within a week or two of starting Shakeology. We suggest reducing your dosage to a ½ scoop once a day. Slowly build up to a ½ scoop twice per day as your tolerance increases. You may then work up to one full scoop per day. Although it is perfectly fine to continue to use Shakeology as 2 small snacks (at a ½ scoop each) throughout your day). However, if symptoms persist, you should consult your physician.
